About Us

Keenan School of Music, Castleknock Dublin was founded by Ms Christian C Keenan B.A. Mus, H.Dip, M.A Mus, CT ABRSM Teacher - Assessor Music Medals ABRSM in September 2003.

Christian has been teaching Music since 1998, which has included positions at Maynooth School of Music (Piano and Flute). Christian has been involved with many county orchestras and has accompanied, examined and taught music, both instrumental and state examinations in various schools throughout Ireland.

Studying flute under Billy Dunwoody (tutor of James Galway) Christian has received many commentaries and medals for her playing. Her greatest honour to date has been her performance for President McAleese at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast. Christian has also performed with orchestras in the Ulster hall, the Kings Hall, Galway, Dublin, Limerick & many other venues throughout Ieland.

Christian’s piano guidance was under Mrs Margaret Thompson, a highly regarded pianist in Ulster and teacher from the Belfast School of Music.

After studying her A levels at Dominican College, Belfast, Christian was accepted to N.U.I Maynooth to study her Bachelor’s Degree in Music before going on to study for her Teaching Diploma. In 2001 Christian received her Master’s Degree in Music. In the University orchestra, Christian played the flute and was appointed the Piccolo (with no formal training). She has played in Musicals in Belfast such as ‘Joseph’, ‘The King and I’ and ‘Calamity Jane’. In Dublin, Christian was the principle flautist in ’It’s Showtime’. She has also been involved with Share Music with Queens University, Belfast.

Christian’s dedication, enthusiasm and continual improvement to learn even more, saw Christian being awarded a certificate of teaching from the ABRSM in June 2008. Moving forward to September 2014 Christian was trained by the ABRSM as a TEACHER-ASSESSOR of the ABRSM Music Medals; Keenan School of Music, Castleknock is the only school in Ireland to be able to offer these fun, rewarding & innovative Music Medals! 2015 saw the launch of ROCKSCHOOLS NEW VOICE & PIANO Syllabus at a workshop held in Keenan School of Music, Castleknock under the direction of Christian who worked with the examiners and teachers of ROCKSCHOOL to bring to the school a more edgy & fun yet accredited music board to the school.

Christian is continuously & constantly working with the different music boards to maintain standards. She is always trying to bring more options of enjoyment whether it is baroque, classical, jazz, popular or theatre music. She believes a balance of music is very important and whichever avenue you decide on should be matched with a certificate or a medal that is ALWAYS accredited.
